Are You Prepared?

On Monday, I dreamed I was with 2 kids, an older girl and younger boy. They were in kayaks in the river and I was standing in river and pointed out that they were about to go over huge waterfall. I stopped their kayaks briefly to warn them. They decided to go on. The girl made it, but the boy had switched to tricycle and drowned.

I woke up so very sad.

I asked God what it meant. He is sad about his creation going off a cliff and being lost to hell. The girl was able to survive because of a tiny bit of preparation ...she could swim and could take my warning. The boy was totally unprepared and could not take in my warning. I was able to just stand in the river no problem and not even go over the cliff because of all the preparation I'd had. The preachers failed to give preparation to the children.

The sadness I felt was a small fraction of the sadness God feels over people rejecting him and being lost. I was sick to my stomach, the grief was so intense.

God created this world. He “owns” it. He created us. In creating the plants and animals and earth, He provided us with everything we needed to live here. This is His place, and He gets to make the rules. When we break the rules, that is called sin. Like a good father, God made rules that keep us safe. A father might tell a young boy that he must not run out into the busy street. He doesn’t make the rule because he hates his boy, but because he loves the child. In the same way, God gave us rules to we could live together and be safe. So he told us to not steal, murder, lie, commit sexual sin, etc. God also established the punishment for sin, death, meaning an eternity in hell. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. He is perfect in His righteousness.

God is also perfect in His lovingkindness. He provided a way so we didn’t all have to spend an eternity in torment in hell. He sent His only son to pay our penalty, to pay the death we earned with our sins. Jesus came and died in our place, so that we would have a chance to live. What we have to do is repent and follow Jesus, take him as our Lord, believe Him enough to obey Him. When we are in Jesus, we can have eternal life.

God did everything so that we could be saved. If we reject so great a salvation, that is up to us. God gave us free will. He shows great mercy and love toward us that He would make a way for us, when there seemed to be no way. Even though He made it easy, it is a narrow path, and He was clear that very few will find it.

Matthew 7:13 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.

The signs are all around us that Jesus is returning soon. The first time He came, it was as the Lamb of God, sacrificed for our sins, the suffering servant. When He returns it will be as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. He will be the conquering King, come to pour out his wrath and judge the world in righteousness. You see all the chaos in the world now. You can see the hopelessness of the world. It will only get worse. The Bible says that there will be seven years of basically hell on earth. It will be the worst time in human history. Men’s hearts will fail them for fear of what’s coming on the earth.

Will you accept God’s offer of amnesty before this time arrives? He is reaching out to you today. He wants you to be saved, but the choice is yours.
