The Proud Libertarian

"God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5

Why does God oppose the proud? What's wrong with pride?

The proud libertarian might say:

My vast knowledge makes me better than others.
I know the right thing to do.
If only I were in charge, the world would be a better place.
I don't need anyone telling me what to do.
I don't need any help.
I don't need to rely on a god.

The humble might say:

I know a lot, but the God who made me knows vast amounts more.
God knows the right thing to do.
If everyone followed God, the world would be a better place.
I need God's instruction.
I need God's help every day.
I need to rely completely on the God who made me.

God oppooses the proud because pride and submission to God are opposites. When the angel Satan fell, it was pride: he said, "‘I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’ Isaiah 14:13-14

Satan does not have the opportunity for being reconciled to God, but the proud libertarian does. What could be more fascinating than spending eternity with the One who created all of us and all this world? In His presence is all things that are good. Away from His presence will be all things that are not good. The Bible tells us there will be "weeping and gnashing of teeth" for those who are not reconciled to God. Don't miss your opportunity! Jesus' death on the cross makes it so you can be reconciled to God. He paid the penalty for your unbelief. Put your trust in Him today!
